June 25 and 26, 2004
|
We camped here Friday night. Up early Saturday morning for breakfast then we began work on the cabin.
Workers for this date were Dad (Greg), Zac, Daniel, Lorin, Dr and Mrs Iliff, Tom, Mom (Carla) and Mrs Iliff's three nephews, Jake,
Paul and Josiah.

Above: Daniel shaving the pole. To the right: I am securing the pole (log) so it will not move. Below, alittle
lesson in leverage.

|
 |

At left, we began by pulling the logs into place using Lorin's truck. These poles are 12 inches in diameter and
are pretty heavy. Kenny Spreer from Westar Energy is the one that scrounged the poles up for us and delivered
them to the building site. Above: Dad, Lorin, Mrs Iliff and me. Below: the first poles are in place.

The adults run the chain saws. This is how we notched the poles so they fit on top of each other, just like Lincoln
Logs. It is not as easy as it looks!

More pictures of preparing the poles to fit.

Thanks to Paul, Jake and Josiah for setting the next poles on top so we can just start cutting the next week. Thank
you everyone for all the work today!
Please check back soon. Pictures of the work we completed on July 11 will be here soon. Thanks to the
Women of Oakland United Methodist Church for providing us lunch!
